Career Summery
A summery of your career/academic
achievements to date. Also details of business and/or commercial experience
which may be relevant to intended career. Include any management or supervisory
experience and capabilities, ability to work as part of a team etc. Be brief
and concise.
Skills Summery
Outline skills you have
acquired. These may be grouped together under separate headings such as job
roles, IT skills (outline specific applications/roles) etc. It is useful to
indicate how many months/years experience you have in specific roles. You
should be cautious of self-assessment of skills competency this may be considered
subjective and ignored.
Some agencies and large companies use a word search on skills and roles it is essential, therefore, to include possible key words that will result in hits.
Educational HistoryGive details of your current or most recent job first, listing previous positions in reverse date order. Outline experience gained in the last two to three years in greatest detail. Include names and addresses of the employer/customer, dates (from and to), job title and skills/products used. Various positions held within one company should be described under that employer/client. Also give brief details of details of duties/tasks carried out for each job. Include significant achievements.
This format should be used for positions over the last five or six years. Jobs beyond this period should preferably be summarised to employer name and address, dates and job title, unless all your experience has been in the same skill areas. This saves you being contacted, or put forward for jobs for which you are no longer qualified, or for which you no longer wish to be considered; for example, if you were a Programmer eight years ago, but have been a Project Manager since then, you may no longer be interested in programming.
Additional Information
Information on outside interests, voluntary work, hobbies etc. may be included following your employment history. If you are applying for contract work your skills and experience are most important too much information regarding hobbies and other outside interests is largely irrelevant.
If you have referees who will testify to your competence and reliability, give their details at the end, their relationship to you, and a contact phone number.
